Crawford Farms Another Couple of Champions
Crawford Farms Another Couple of Champions
Kim Crawford has taken two trophies for Champion Wine at the 2007 Royal Easter Show Wine Awards.
Kim Crawford has once again collected the trophy for Champion Sauvignon Blanc at a major wine show. This time, it's for a brand new wine for the world renowned winemaker and the first release of his new label, Crawford Farm.
Accepting the trophy with his Mother Sonia and Father Val, Kim said "Sauvignon Blanc remains New Zealand's most important wine and while I have few trophies for this most competitive of wine classes, this one is particularly special. This is a wine named for the family farm, on Crawford Rd Matamata, where my brothers and I grew up. Winning the trophy is specially good with Mum and Dad here. They made me, I made this and I hope it's made them proud."
Crawford Farm Sauvignon Blanc 2006 is the first release wine from a range that includes, a Chardonnay/ Pinot Gris blend, an unoaked Chardonnay, Riesling in whites and Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot Noir in reds.
On the same night Kim Crawford Wine also collected the trophy for Champion Dessert Wine with Kim Crawford Small Parcels Reka Riesling 2006.
Accepting the trophy for this wine Kim complimented his winemaking team. "We have a winemaking team and viticultural expertise that are so good they make it easy to deliver the consistently successesful and terrific wines we put out every year. Matt Large and Jules Taylor are winemakers any winery would be lucky and proud to have. With the viticultural skills of Jeremy Hyland, we've got that rare thing, a team of champions who've created a champion team. And we've got a couple of Champion Wine trophies to prove it."
The Trophies won were presented during a gala Awards Dinner at the ADSB Showgrounds in Auckland last night as the culmination of the 2007 Royal Easter Show Awards.
Entering thirty wines, Kim Crawford
enjoyed a fantastic return with a total of twenty six awards
made up of two trophies, ten bronze medals, seven silvers
and seven
