Trade Me to move into tourism

Media Release

Tuesday 27 March 2007

Trade Me to move into tourism

Online marketplace operator Trade Me today announced it was preparing to move into the New Zealand tourism market.

“We took a good look around the market and it became clear the tourism sector wasn’t making good use of the internet,” said Trade Me general manager, Sam Morgan.

“With this in mind we’ve starting building a tourism website, with an initial focus on accommodation.”

Trade Me has selected local tourism technology provider Vianet to work with. The two companies are currently involved in a build with the expectation that the service will go live in mid 2007.

“We’d suggest any accommodation provider who wants to get involved get in touch with Vianet through their website www.vianet.travel,” said Mr Morgan.

Vianet managing director Wayne Campbell said he was delighted to be partnering with Trade Me.

“Like Trade Me, we’re a small fast moving company with a bias towards the user experience. We think there’s a great opportunity here and are looking forward to making it happen with the Trade Me team,” said Mr Campbell.

Vianet is based in Kerikeri has 15 years experience in the tourism industry.
