Auckland to Host First NZ Hotel Industry Council

PRESS RELEASE BY New Zealand Hotel Council
For immediate release

Auckland to Host First Ever New Zealand Hotel Industry Conference

The inaugural New Zealand Hotel Industry Conference (NZHIC) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Auckland on 10 May 2007. The conference brings together hotel industry experts, managers, owners, thought leaders and decision-makers (both from New Zealand and overseas) to discuss strategic issues facing the hotel industry in New Zealand.

Keynote addresses will be given by Norm Thompson (Group General Manager Short Haul Airlines, Chairman of TIANZ and member of the Ministerial Advisory Group overseeing the review of the NZ Tourism Strategy) and Graeme Wood (founder and Managing Director of wotif.com). Panellists will include representatives of key stakeholder groups and industry experts in the New Zealand hotel industry, including George Hickton (Tourism NZ) and Stuart Neels (ITOC).

Hosted in partnership with Horwath HTL Ltd and Simpson Grierson, NZHIC will focus on key topical issues affecting the New Zealand hotel industry. The conference will be of keen interest to international chain, independent, privately-owned and boutique hotels. Approximately 200 hotel managers, owners, investors, bankers, developers and consultants are expected to attend the conference.

According to New Zealand Hotel Council CEO, Mark Oldershaw, "The sector has wanted a local hotel industry conference for some time to address issues of particular relevance to the New Zealand market. The focus of the conference will be on strategic and operational issues including human resources and yield management, and also serviced apartments and hotel investment. It will enable greater thought sharing and focus on best practice within the industry. We're pleased to be able to offer this forum for our members and other hotel industry stakeholders. The format of the conference will also allow plenty of opportunities for networking".

The NZHIC will provide locally what the New Zealand hotel industry has previously had to find offshore at other hotel annual conferences in Australia, Asia and United States. It is intended that the NZHIC will held annually.
