Jade Wins Major
Port Contract in Europe
JADE Master Terminal has been selected as the Port Operating System for Poland’s new deepwater container terminal
Christchurch, New Zealand. Jade Software Corporation (JSC) today announced that DCT Gdansk, Poland’s new and only deepwater container terminal due to open for business on 1st June 2007, has selected Jade Software Corporation’s JADE Master Terminal software to manage their container terminal.
Backed by Australia’s Macquarie Bank through the Macquarie Global Infrastructure Fund II, DCT Gdansk has been constructing the new, independent deep-sea container port, since 2005, the terminal when completed will be the largest of its kind in the Baltic and also the most easterly ice free port in the Baltic.
Phase one of the terminal began in October 2005 with the 36 hectare container terminal being constructed from a green field site that was a beach situated on the eastern side of Gda sk harbour. In addition to the new container terminal, a large block of land immediately adjacent to the site has been earmarked as a state of the art logistics park providing a massive logistical boost for the Gda sk area and for Poland.
The newly constructed terminal will be able to handle a maximum capacity of 500,000 20ft equivalent units (TEU) per annum with a roll-on roll-off berth capacity of 160,000 TEU. Phase Two of the project will double the terminal capacity to over one million TEU per year with further construction possible.
Handling container volumes of nearly twice that of Lyttelton Port on go-live and exceeding the volumes of Auckland once expanded. DCT Gdansk will represent the largest of over 20 sites around the world in which Jade Master Terminal manages cargo flows at ports.
Mr Colin Chanter, DCT Gdansk’s chief executive says, “When planning to build this terminal, we knew that selecting the best terminal operating system would be a key decision. After investigating all options we selected JADE Master Terminal because it was a modern, fully integrated solution that would allow us to maximise the operation of our terminal while providing easy access to information for our customers. We have worked very closely with Jade to implement a state-of-the-art solution for this new state of the art terminal”
Dr Rod Carr, JSC’s managing director says, “We are delighted with DCT Gdansk’s decision to implement JADE Master Terminal and see this decision as a resounding endorsement of JADE Master Terminal’s capabilities and emerging presence in the international container terminal market.”

ABOUT
DCT GDANSK SA
DCT Gdansk is building the first container terminal in the Baltic Sea that will be capable of berthing the largest vessels currently in service. Its first stage will see the construction of a 36 hectare terminal capable of handling 500,000TEU per annum. A roll-on, roll-off berth will add an extra 160,000TEU to this capacity.
A 650m quay will be served initially by three post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes and five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes. Liebherr is building both types of crane for the terminal and the first examples will be fully erected in Gdansk in March 2007. The remaining cranes will arrive in large component form for erection on site. Commissioning, trials and driver training will be completed during May ready for the first ships to berth at the beginning of June. By July, all of the cranes will be operational and the entire 650m of quay will be completed by October.
DCT Gdansk will offer a depth alongside of 16.5m and the ship-to-shore cranes will have an outreach of 44m from the quay, sufficient to handle ships carrying containers 18-abreast on deck. The approaches to the Port of Gdansk also offer a minimum 16.5m depth thus accommodating 15m draft "Baltimax" vessels and the port remains effectively ice free all year round.
