Books take centre stage at Westfield

You've heard of books in homes. Well now it's books in malls these school holidays.

In conjunction with Whitcoulls, Westfield shopping centres throughout the country are holding Story Time book readings as part of April school holiday entertainment.

Daily readings between 11am and 2pm are designed to entertain the kids.

These holidays kids also have the opportunity to meet and greet TV2's children friendly Hi-5 team presently playing shows across the country at participating Westfield shopping centres

"It's a brilliant programme designed to entertain kids as well as educate them about the value of books and teach them to enjoy reading," says Westfield's Deb McGhie.

For the books programme, Whitcoulls is providing the readers for six 20 minute sessions daily with a 10 minute break between each.

Titles are suitable for children from aged three and into their teens. Books are grouped in themes and a different book within each theme is being read every day.

Themes include Favourite Fables and Fairytales, Dr Seuss Favourites, Funny and Fantastic, Lemony Snicket Rules, The Book of the Movie and Animal Crackers.

"The neat thing is that after each session the book being read is given to a lucky child in the crowd at each centre," Ms McGhie says.

"Kids can also vote on the Whitcoulls Top 50 Books at the end of each session and the voting forms also have an area where they can join the Westfield Kids Club with lots of treats during the year."

The multi-talented Hi-5 team is renowned for its colourful and entertaining TV programme where they mischievously explore language, music and visual concepts, as well as social skills.
