Overlander returns to winter season timetable

The Overlander passenger rail service between Wellington and Auckland will return to a winter timetable from 27 April 2007.

After the Easter School Holiday period the service will continue running three days a week, every Friday Saturday and Sunday, until the busy summer season when it will return to daily operation.

As always indicated when the continuation of the service was announced, the timetable allows for the ease in demand over the quieter winter months.

Tranz Scenic are delighted at the support the service has received over the summer season and says while the service is running 3 days a week there will be various campaigns taking place offering event travel as well as special fares

Tranz Scenic Marketing Manager Graeme Mowday says, “It’s been fantastic to have such great support from the public which has meant a successful summer season. Our passengers are enjoying the improvements we have made – in particular the fresh new look in all the refurbished carriages.”

“We are dedicated to ensuring we maintain momentum through the winter season and specials will include great fares to the North Island ski fields and working with local operators in places like National Park and Waitomo to offer packages over the weekends.”

For the third year in a row Tranz Scenic will also be running its successful Steam Engine Saturday excursions on the Overlander fortnightly between Fielding and Ohakune which have been extremely popular with the public in the past.
