Airport upgrades taxi, shuttle service standards
Christchurch International Airport Ltd (CIAL) yesterday announced changes to its regulations governing taxis and shuttles operating from the airport, with the purpose of increasing the level of customer service and to ensure passenger safety for airport users.
Darin Cusack, General Manager Service & Operations at CIAL, says that passenger security is paramount in the decision to review these regulations. "Christchurch Airport often provides an incoming tourist with their first impression of New Zealand, and it is imperative that the taxis and shuttles working from the airport present a high standard to these guests when operating from this airport gateway", he says. "Tourism is the heartbeat of this city, and it is our role to ensure that tourists leave Christchurch with positive experiences to share with others."
The new regulations will ensure that vehicles are of a presentable standard and are no more than ten years old. They will also enforce the Smoke Free workplace legislation by ensuring that there is no smoking in vehicles, and will require all drivers to wear a smart standard of dress. While airport drivers have in the past been licensed by the airport, they will now be required to display an identification card issued by the airport company.
The new regulations will be introduced in July 2007, giving operators three months to ensure they meet the new service levels.
