42 Below, South Gin and Seven Tiki Named the World’s Finest Spirits

AUCKLAND, 3 May 2007 – New Zealand’s own super-premium spirit company 42 Below has swept the board at the world’s most prestigious spirit competition, the Monde Selection.

In the 2007 Monde Selection of Spirits and Liqueurs, SOUTH Gin received a Grand Gold Medal with Palms and the competition’s ultimate accolade, the International High Quality Trophy (awarded to a product that has won gold three years in a row).

42 BELOW Pure Vodka received a Grand Gold Medal with Palms, its fourth consecutive gold (believed to be an Australasian first), and 42 BELOW Passionfruit Vodka won gold for the second year running. Newcomer Seven Tiki White Rum achieved its first gold.

Chief vodka bloke Geoff Ross says, “New Zealand may have crashed and burned in the Cricket World Cup, but this is a result to restore our national pride – beyond any doubt, New Zealand leads the world in super-premium spirits.

“Last year we described winning a Monde gold as the spirits world equivalent of taking home the Best Picture Oscar or the Cannes Palm D’Or. This year we’ve not only nabbed the Best Picture Oscar four years in a row, we’ve swept the board.”

Geoff adds, “We’re especially chuffed to see Seven Tiki getting its dues. This is the first competition we’ve entered Seven Tiki into and it’s great to see the experts agreeing with us that the world’s finest rum doesn’t have to come from the Caribbean.”

The 2007 Monde Selection of Spirits and Liqueurs awards ceremony will take place on May 27th in Barcelona, Spain.
