Adidas licensed concept store to open

Adidas licensed concept store to open at Auckland Airport

Auckland International Airport Limited (AIAL) is pleased to announce that adidas will be opening a new licensed concept store airside at the international terminal in July.

The flagship licensed concept store will stock a wide range of licensed adidas apparel and footwear for men and women, including team sportswear for the All Blacks, Rebel Sport Super 14 teams, international soccer teams like Chelsea and Liverpool, NBA and cricket. It will also carry some product exclusive to the airport store.

The 150 square metre store is between the airside fashion and destination product precincts in the international terminal. All stock will be available tax-free. The Auckland Airport location will be the third adidas retail location after Wellington and Newmarket in Auckland.

AIAL general manager retail, Nick Forbes, says "The company has identified the need for an iconic brand to extend the range of retail options and adidas and their All Blacks range is an excellent fit."

"As the gateway to and from New Zealand, Auckland Airport is proud to offer such a highly regarded quality brand to departing New Zealanders and international visitors," said Mr Forbes.

adidas New Zealand Managing Director, Greig Bramwell, says while adidas has other airport based retail stores around the world, focusing on licensed product ranges is something unique.

"The airport store will offer something quite different from our Sports Performance Centre in Newmarket, Auckland, and our Originals Concept Store in Wellington, by showcasing our licensed product offerings," Greig said.

"The store will focus largely on New Zealand made All Blacks products - including the latest adidas All Blacks jersey, which was recently launched, but travellers will also be able to purchase a wide range of gear from their favourite sports teams."

The opening is well-timed to offer New Zealanders travelling to the Rugby World Cup in Europe a range of All Black merchandise. The five-year deal will see the store open for trade through to and beyond the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand during 2011.

AIAL's retail income increased 8.3 percent to $46.203 million in the first half of this financial year. Following completion of the new upper level on the international terminal pier, the opening of new duty free and specialty stores and the opening of a 2,200 square metre retail precinct at the domestic terminal, retail trading has seen a marked improvement over previous periods.

Other international terminal retail offerings include duty free stores, New Zealand made gifts, souvenirs and fine food, fashion, jewellery and accessories, food and beverage, pharmacy and health, books, news, music and games, currency exchange and other services.
