World-leading Ad Man to Visit New
Zealand
Harrods, The Guardian, Porsche, adidas and Patek Philippe - a collection of the world's most famous brands - owe some of their success to world renowned advertising man, Tim Delaney.
The copywriter and former director of Mohamed Al Fayed's Fulham football club is coming to New Zealand to present the Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB) Newspaper Ad of the Year award.
Delaney, who at age 34 founded leading British agency, Leagas Delaney, was an adviser to Prime Minister, James Callaghan. Among his many trophies is a British Television Award for Lifetime Achievement. He is currently Chairman of the National Newspaper Awards in Britain.
A strong advocate for print advertising, Delaney says the written word will always have the ability to connect, surprise, engage and persuade.
"Yes, the digital age is creating a new media landscape for advertisers, but marketers and creative people need to be re-energised about newspapers.
"The challenge is understanding the role that newspapers can play in the lives of today's consumers and how ads can be effective within that. Awards like NAB Newspaper Ad of the Year are vital in highlighting the power of great creative work. "
Newspaper advertising in New Zealand is in a strong position says NAB general manager, Robert Munro.
'Newspaper advertising grew 4.3 percent from '05 to'06*. This is the largest increase in share of spend across all measured media.'
Finalists in the NAB Newspaper Ad of the Year Award are: Telecom NZ from Saatchi and Saatchi, Durex from DDB, NZ Lotteries from Lowe, McKenzie Bread from Publicis Mojo, Watersafe Auckland from Y&R, Sky TV from DDB, Frank from Colenso, Prime from DraftFCB and APN Axis Award entries from DraftFCB.
The NAB Newspaper Ad of the Year Award winning creative team receives $10,000. This will be announced by Tim Delaney at an invitation only function on Tuesday 29 May.
