Notices of Requirement Lodged with Councils

Media release

Transpower lodges Notices of Requirement with Councils

Transpower lodged the Notices of Requirement (NoR) today for its proposed transmission line from Whakamaru to South Auckland. The application was lodged with seven councils from South Waikato to South Auckland whose areas are affected by the new line.

This signals the start of the process under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) which provides an opportunity for the public and the Councils to assess the environmental effects of Transpower’s proposal. Once the Councils have assessed the application, it will be publicly notified and there will be a call for public submissions.

Given the number of Councils involved, the Councils have agreed to manage the RMA processes collaboratively. Environment Waikato has been appointed as coordinator of these processes.

Transpower chief executive Dr Ralph Craven said that there has been a substantial amount of preparatory work undertaken between Transpower and the affected local authorities over the past three years and the collaborative approach adopted by the councils is greatly appreciated.

“Transpower will continue working cooperatively with the Councils throughout the process by providing any further information or clarification required and will address the concerns of those affected communities and individual landowners to every possible extent,” he said.
