Expansion For Armstrong Motor Group
One of the South Island’s highest profile motor vehicle dealers is adding another franchise dealership to the company, with the acquisition of Kirk Motors’ Wellington and Lower Hutt Mitsubishi dealerships from 1 June 2007.
This move is the most recent in the Armstrong Motor Group’s rapid growth, whichincludes the recent acquisition of the Hyundai and Mazda dealerships in Dunedin.
Owner and director Rick Armstrong says the acquisitions are part of the group’s goal to be the most professional motor group in the country.
“We’re taking a long term view of the industry,” he says. “We see franchise dealerships as the way to create a sustainable position in the market, but also want to be able to offer vehicle solutions for everyone.
“The new dealerships to join the group fit our vision to offer customers a ‘one-stop shop’ of sales advice, finance, servicing, parts and follow-up contact, whether for new or used cars, at every location.”
Rick Armstrong says he is excited about the Armstrong Motor Group’s development.
“I have a great passion for this group and the future we are building,” he says. “We have well positioned brands, a good mix of dealerships and about 300 staff now. Our aim is to keep the staff and introduce and integrate the culture of the group.”
Rick Armstrong admits the rapid growth has meant considerable growth to the management team supporting the group. Externally, some of the group’s sites are also undergoing redevelopment, refurbishment or a move to a new location, but Rick says he considers opportunities when they arise, determining then whether they fit his overall strategic plan.
“We are becoming a well known group in the industry, with good people and great brand dealerships,” he says. “Our intention is to secure and maintain a strong position in the motor industry for the next 20 years.”
