New Sports-Oriented SR3 Model Distinctive Touch

New Sports-Oriented SR3 Model Adds Distinctive Touch to Suzuki Swift Lineup

An extravert version of the award-winning Suzuki Swift five-door hatchback has landed in the New Zealand market.

Adding an extra punchy dimension to the chic sports styling, the new Swift SR3 is based on the popular 1.5-litre Swift which is New Zealand’s best selling small car.

Bold eight-spoke aluminium alloy wheels and low profile tyres are just part of the distinctive SR3 package that places an emphasis on individuality and value for money.

In place of the 15-inch diameter wheels and 185/60 series tyres fitted to the standard Swift, the SR3 is equipped with large 17-inch black and silver TSW Rocket alloy wheels and 205/40 R17 tyres.

A discreet but purposeful body kit, with front spoiler, lower side skirts and hatchback spoiler are finished in gloss black, contrasting with the bright paintwork.

Black door mirrors and door handles are other points of external bodywork difference, while a chrome exhaust extension is also standard.
The limited edition SR3 is additional to the Swift range and comes in three stand-out colours.

Most of the SR3 models imported into New Zealand will be finished in Champion Yellow, mirroring the distinctive body colour of the rapid Junior Rally Championship-leading Swift Sport rally car.

Champion Yellow is only available on the SR3 versions of the 1.5 litre Swift and has been restricted to one production run specifically for the New Zealand market.

SR3 will also be available in Pearl Bluish Black and Pearl Supreme Red, although Suzuki New Zealand confirms availability of all three colours will be tight.

The special Swift SR3 hatchbacks are being built at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Japanese plant and have black interior trim.

They are only available with a four-stage automatic transmission, and are powered by the well-proven 1,490cm3 M15A double overhead camshaft engine with variable valve timing.

This 16-valve four-cylinder engine produces 75 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and 133 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm – the same as the mainstream 1.5-litre Swift GLX.

In the official combined fuel cycle test incorporating urban and highway operation, the SR3 returns 6.9 litres/100 km (40.9 miles per gallon). The Swift auto emits a low 170 CO2 grams/km emission level and runs on 91RON octane petrol.

Despite standard fitment of $5,000 worth of factory accessories, the SR3 has a recommended on-road retail price of $21,990. This is just $1,190 more than the 1.5 Swift GLX with automatic transmission.

“Clearly the SR3 offers great buying, but numbers will be scarce and we will be unable to offer this sports version on an on-going basis,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand.

Standard equipment includes air conditioning with pollen filter, dual front air bags, anti-lock braking with EBD and brake assist.

A Sony MP3-compatible audio system with front auxiliary input jack is also part of the SR3 package.

The SR3 also has remote central door locking, power steering, electrically operated windows, halogen headlights and 60/40 split tumble-folding rear seat.
