Westpac Joins Richie's Line Up

Westpac New Zealand has today announced a partnership with Richie McCaw

The partnership sees the bank providing support to Richie for two years, and in return he will act as an ambassador for the bank, be involved in some of Westpac's local community activities and appear as an inspirational speaker at selected client functions.

Richie has also joined the Westpac team, as a Westpac customer who will receive special financial advice tailored to the needs of a professional sportsman.

Westpac New Zealand Chief Executive Brad Cooper spoke about how pleased the bank was to become true partners with the player.

"Partnering with Richie is something Westpac is immensely proud of. Westpac is looking forward to being Richie's trusted advisor and number one supporter, realising our shared vision of being 100 per cent committed to New Zealand."

Richie McCaw said of the partnership: "Westpac not only understands me and my career, but will also provide the financial advice and support I'll need over the next couple of years. And best of all I get to play a part in Westpac's community activities too."

Richie's partnership with Westpac will involve

* Two years of financial support from Westpac
* Ambassador role in a NZ competition
* Inspirational speaker at a number of Westpac events
* Specialist financial advice and Private Banking

Westpac prides itself on providing the right advice whoever and whatever stage of life customers are at, from children opening their first bank account right through to superannuitants.

As part of this the bank also has significant experience in supporting professional sports players, a special breed when it comes to finance, with playing careers that often finish in the early 30's. This means that good financial and retirement planning is more important to sports players than many.

Former-All Black, and now Westpac Private Banker, Clive Currie explains: "We all know that rugby can be tough on the body, but not everyone realises that without the right advice it can also be tough on your wallet too. The dedication it requires to make the top grade can sometimes mean players have to sacrifice careers and even education for the love of sport."

Clive continues "As private bankers we have to take into account the differing and unique needs of people who excel in their chosen fields, something we are well equipped to do at Westpac."
