Yet More Speed for TelstraClear Internet Customers

TelstraClear has completed a major milestone for delivering faster speeds on its network, replacing the platform used for high speed Internet services.

The company has installed Motorola’s Advanced Provisioning System (MAPS), investing $1.2m in the new platform, servicing business and residential customers on its Wellington, Kapiti and Christchurch cable networks.

TelstraClear Chief Operating Officer Luigi Sorbello, says the project, which involved transferring more than 62,000 customer modems, will deliver greater network capacity, reliability and faster performance.

“This enhancement gives us speeds up to 150% faster on our network. With the back end capability now complete, the next step is to deliver new services and broadband speeds unheard of in New Zealand.”

The company will offer customers speeds of up to 25 Mbps downstream by the end of the year. This is an increase on the company’s fastest existing plan which offers speeds of up to 10 Mbps.

The platform replacement allows for the continued growth of business and residential Internet services on the network. These include the future addition of services such as Internet Protocol Virtual Private Networks, Voice over Internet Protocol and Video On-Demand services.

Mr Sorbello says, “We now have 70,000 customers on our InHome residential network and with MAPS, we have the ability to expand customer numbers even further.”
