Grabaseat Celebrates a Year of Ludicrously Low Domestic Fares

One-dollar fares to celebrate grabaseat’s first birthday today sparked a frenzy of online activity as Kiwis snapped up Air New Zealand’s cheapest-ever domestic fares.

Special offers on grabaseat.co.nz included $1 each-way flights from Auckland to Dunedin and Christchurch to Nelson.

More than 115,000 seats have been sold exclusively on grabaseat since it was launched in July 2006.

Each day a range of ludicrously low domestic and international fares are offered, for example, Hamilton-Palmerston North for $29 one way and Auckland-Los Angeles for $498 return.

Air New Zealand General Manager Internet Nicki Garraway says the response to grabaseat has been exceptional over the first year, with traffic to the website peaking at 1.9 million visitors per month in May.

“Kiwis are really excited about seeing more of their country and overseas destinations –grabaseat’s ludicrously low fares are making travel even more accessible and affordable.”

The average fare for domestic routes is around $50, making impulsive trips away a reality. “From surprise visits with friends and family to experiencing breathtaking scenery or simply exploring a new city, grabaseat helps brings spontaneity back to travel.”
