NZ Landcare Trust appoints new CEO

NZ Landcare Trust appoints new CEO

NZ Landcare Trust Chairman Richard Thompson has announced the appointment of Dr Nick Edgar as the organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Dr Edgar is currently the Trust’s Research Manager. He will begin his new role on August 20, taking over from founding CEO Don Ross QSM, who is retiring.

Dr Edgar has both a science and a managerial background, and specialises in sustainable land and water management. He trained as a freshwater ecologist, and was an environmental scientist with Environment Waikato. He was a natural resource specialist for the Institute for Sustainable Regional Development in Queensland, and then moved to the NZ Landcare Trust, where his key focus has been developing and facilitating sustainable land management solutions.

‘I’m delighted to take on the role of CEO at an exciting time for the NZ Landcare Trust,’ Dr Edgar says.

‘New Zealand faces a major challenge to find the balance between economic and environmental sustainability, and the Trust is ideally placed to deliver solutions.

‘My aims as CEO include demonstrating how and why we are successful, increasing our regional coverage and engagement with industry, and promoting leadership and staff development at all levels.’

Richard Thompson says Dr Edgar combines deep scientific understanding with a keen awareness of the challenges facing landowners.

‘The Trustees admired Nick’s commitment to inclusiveness and consensus both within the organisation, and our external work. His ambitions for the Trust align well with ours.

‘We believe he is the ideal person to pick up the baton from Don Ross, and we are excited about the journey ahead.’
