Government transport move welcomed

Government transport move welcomed

Business NZ has welcomed the Government’s decision to dedicate all petrol tax money to land transport.

The move has been strongly advocated by Business NZ and Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says it will deliver much-needed improvements to New Zealand’s transport infrastructure.

“We would like to see robust cost-benefit analysis applied to inform the decisions on where the extra funding is to be spent.

“Solid investment in road - and also in rail as long as it is not at the expense of road improvements – will be welcome.

“Another way in which New Zealand’s roading can be improved without incurring extra cost to the public purse is through more encouragement for public-private partnerships (PPPs).

“We hope the Government might now ease the restrictions on PPPs under the Land Transport Management Act to encourage further development of essential transport infrastructure.”
