Invercargill Poultry Plant Closure

Invercargill Poultry Plant Closure

The New Zealand Poultry Industry Association supports the decision of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) to close an Invercargill Poultry Plant until it meets the required hygiene standards, Executive Director Michael Brooks said today.

NZFSA closed the plant on Tuesday because it fell short of the standards it requires for food processing plants.

“The Association regrets that one of the country’s smaller and older plants has not met the food safety processing standards required by NZFSA and expected by the industry”.

The Association understands that the company will be working with NZFSA to ensure the plant meets the high standards required to allow them to resume production as soon as possible.

“The Association supports the NZFSA’s actions because consumer protection and high standards of hygiene and processing practice are an absolute priority.”

“The Invercargill plant is one of twenty poultry processing plants and produces 1.05% of poultry production”.
