Moteliers elect a new President

6-Aug-07

The 34th Annual General Meeting of the Motel Association of New Zealand elected Andy Wrighton of Brydan on Rose in Blenheim President.

Andy has been a motelier for 7 years and operates one of the few 5 star Qualmark graded motel properties in New Zealand.

Andy has been on the board of the association for 3 years and is looking forward to the transition to the presidency.

Andy in accepting the position paid tribute to Stewart Haynes the retiring president for the outstanding contribution he had made to the current health and profile of the association.

Andy see’s many issues facing the industry but includes the relationship that motels have with local councils and council’s treatment of commercial accommodation as areas that need a high priority. Andy also see’s the greater awareness of domestic tourism and its’ importance to the tourism industry a positive step forward but only a start.

Andy looks forward to fostering the growing awareness of the importance of motels to the international tourists and in particular Free Independent Travellers & Semi Independent Travellers.
