The 34th Annual General
Meeting of the Motel Association of New Zealand was
delighted to elected John Gilbertson of Arrow Motels in
Nelson and John Sandford, founder and retired CEO of
Jason’s Travel Media Life members of the
Association..
Both gentlemen in their own ways have made outstanding contributions to the Motel industry, and their elections were both greeted with ovations form the members.
John Gilbertson has been the industries IT champion for many years; championing the internet based “Duty Motel” scheme througfh its’ inception through “Holiday Guide” to today. The growth of online booking and room availability in New Zealand motels owes John a huge debt of gratitude. John has been the initial point of contact for many moteliers contemplating IT solutions and his knowledge and advice has been freely and generously given.
John Sandford attended his first MANZ conference 33 years ago and has attended everyone since then. John has worked tirelessly with and for the industry on many fronts and in many forums. John has rightly been honoured by tourism in general but it was the opinion of the members that they needed to recognise one who has gone above and beyond. John is the first non-motelier to be honoured this way and the special category of Honorary Life Member was instituted to recognise his unique position in the industry.
