Get ‘booking’ to Norfolk Island

A life coach, a former women’s magazine editor, an intrepid traveller and an ex Home & Away star are just a few of the authors appearing at Norfolk Island’s Spring Book Festival.

During the week of September 30 to October 7 a diverse range of authors from across Australasia will speak about their careers, experiences and current books.

New Zealander Graham Reid is a widely regarded journalist and respected travel and music writer. His columns, interviews and essays have been seen in publications including the New Zealand Herald and The Listener, as well as various travel magazines. In 2003 he received the prestigious Media Peace Award for his article on the volatile politics of the Solomon Islands.

His latest book Postcards from Elsewhere won the Whitcoulls TravCom Travel Book of the Year in 2006 and includes some of his acclaimed travel stories; from a night on police patrol cruising through Miami Beach to an obscure island off the coast of South Korea and everything in between. Graham will be speaking about these experiences and more.

Judy Nunn, well known for playing the role as playing Ailsa Stewart on popular Australian soap Home & Away and also a top-selling novelist, will also be joining the festival line-up. Judy’s books range from historical stories about Australia to movie-making and even a scandalous look at what goes on behind the scenes in the glitzy world of television.

Australian Susan Duncan, a former editor of two top Australian women’s magazines will talk about her triumph over tragedy, as detailed in her novel, Salvation Creek. Susan enjoyed a fabulous jet-set lifestyle mixing with the rich and famous across the globe – before two personal tragedies shattered everything. She will speak about her battle to start a new life.

About Norfolk Island: Discovered by Captain Cook in 1774, Norfolk Island was first settled as a British penal colony in 1788 through to 1856. On June 8, 1856, the island was re-inhabited by a community from Pitcairn Island, descendants of the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions. Known today as Norfolk Islanders, they form a majority of the 1,800 resident population. Norfolk Island is renowned for its spectacular coastal scenery, colourful history, sporting and cultural activities, convict heritage and tax-free shopping.
