Westpac New Zealand announces new GM Marketing and Brand Experience

Westpac New Zealand has today announced the appointment of Ian Sutcliffe, most recently Vice President/Marketing with McDonalds, to the role of General Manager Marketing and Brand Experience with Westpac New Zealand. The appointment is subject to final approval by the Reserve Bank.

Mr Sutcliffe brings to Westpac a strong marketing and communications background demonstrating leadership and results. He led the successful repositioning of the McDonalds brand in difficult times and was runner-up to NZ Marketing Magazine's Marketer of the Year in 2005.

Westpac New Zealand CEO Brad Cooper said: "Ian's broad marketing and communications experience working with a customer-focused brand leader make him an extremely strong addition to our executive team.

"His commercial ability has been clearly demonstrated in the way he integrated a consistent brand experience to engage and change the mindset of customers, driving sales growth and improved profitability.

"These skills will be important to Westpac as we seek to define ourselves more strongly in the hearts and minds of our customers and drive our business strategy to ensure success in a very competitive environment," Mr Cooper said.

Today's announcement, along with the recent appointment of Mariette Van Ryn as General Manager of Regulatory Affairs and General Counsel, and Gavin Street as Chief Financial Officer, further strengthens the Westpac New Zealand Executive Team and builds business momentum for the bank.

Mr Sutcliffe will be responsible for enhancing the Westpac brand through communications to customers, staff and the community. This function includes the management of marketing, media relations, sponsorship, corporate responsibility and community involvement.
