Record crowd of more than 30,000 people expected at eighth annual Auckland erotica expo
A record crowd of more than 30,000 people are expected to attend the eighth annual Erotica Expo in Auckland in a fortnight.
Erotica has been part of the Auckland expo calendar since 2000. The August 24-26 extravaganza of stalls, samples and advice is New Zealand’s largest health, sexuality and lifestyle exhibition.
Organiser Sandy Watts said 27,000 visitors attended the Auckland event last year.
``With the Palmerston North and two Christchurch events, the upcoming expo in Auckland will be the 11th such expo in New Zealand.
More than 175,000 people have been through the erotica expo doors since the event was launched in 2000.
In addition to the entertainment and erotica for sale, the exhibits promote everything from books to photography as well as some that educate the public about sexual health issues.
Dedicated to information, the expo is not only about live stage shows and jelly wrestling, but about sharing the latest breakthroughs in research, development and products.
From lingerie to motorised stimuli it’s all here. Highly successful since it first began in 2000, the event incorporates all facets of all things adult.
``Erotica is like no other event in New Zealand – restricted to people over 18 years, it enables adults to shop, be entertained, relax and discover new products and services.
``An independent survey of visitors has found the expo attracts mostly couples or groups of friends, mostly aged between 24 and 44 yrs and mostly earners that are above the average income bracket.
``The most exciting and interesting statistic from the last two events in Christchurch and Auckland showed the percentage of women attendees is now over 50 percent.
``So we are moving in a very exciting direction with our exhibitors and entertainment geared to match the audience.’’
Watts
said the expo will be a place to learn, see, understand,
try, discover, demo, touch, hear and understand new products
and services in a fun couple friendly
environment.‘’
``Many middle-class married couples
attend the expo not simply to gawk at pornographic actors
but to challenge the sensual side of their relationships. We
can sincerely say people view the expo as a place to
recognise the positive aspects of their relationships.
‘’
NZ's top online erotic book shop High Jinx and
best selling erotic author, Christine Leov Lealand will
feature at this year’s event. A leading New Zealand
comedienne Jan Maree will be the MC.
The Auckland Sexual Health Clinic is also on site to offer advice and support.
The expo will next be seen at Palmerston North on November 9, 10 and 11.
