2 Years Research in NZ on Attitude in the Workplace
Attitude Specialist, Janice Davies has been conducting a survey for over two years on ‘attitude in the workplace’. The information was for collected for an upcoming book.
Janice is a professional conference speaker, business trainer, success coach and author and Past President of National Speakers Association of NZ (Auckland). She is the founder of the International Self Esteem day and a finalist for the Entrepreneur Award for the Sales & Marketing of New Zealand.
She travels New Zealand with her hot topic workshop “Dealing with Difficult People & Tricky Situations workshop’ presenting over twenty times to business audiences over the past 3 years, teaching about empowerment at work and overcoming the bullying. She established the lack of ‘connectiveness and positive attitude within the work environment and has since created a workshop sharing some of the research she’s collected.
The research has been collected by visitors to her website. A further 1000 companies from her database in the north, central and southern areas of New Zealand were invited to participate. Approximately an additional 5% completed the questionnaire.
The questions were related to the following: The biggest challenges about employees attitudes; what employers offer to keep employees motivated and improve people’s attitude; how do they keep motivated; what education they provide; the relationship between attitude and service; staying positive at work; sense of achievement; recognition and fun at work.
In my opinion, the data collected was from 2/3rds of companies who had supportive work environments. This support ranged from verbal praise and recognition to gifts and financial rewards. The other 1/3rd left employees to survive or thrive on their own.
A wide range of specialized work related training was provided by approximately half of the companies, with a small percentage extending the training to personal development.
However, with the shortage of skilled workforce it appears most companies did not offer any incentive to staff for improving workplace motivation or attitudes. With disengagement a challenge for many employers, it would seem important to change people’s attitude to work and its rewards. A more extensive report is available.
In Auckland, she’s planning a shared morning workshop presenting to a business crowd on Creating Positive Workplace Attitudes, with the Pat Armitstead, another keynote conference presenter who has traveled with Patch Adams to Russia and calls herself the Joyologist.
With 5 books on attitude, setting goals and esteem, Janice has set herself a goal to be on the Oprah Winfrey show within the next 5 years and a make a movie.
