APN leads in all areas
APN’s flagship daily title, the New Zealand Herald has attracted 9000 additional readers in the 12 months to June this year - the largest readership growth of any metropolitan daily or Sunday newspaper in New Zealand.
The readership numbers reported by The Nielsen Company’s National Readership Survey, cover the July 2006 to June 2007 period.
The Herald now has an average daily readership of 558,000 which is 2% higher than the same period a year ago. The Herald’s readership growth means that its top four editions – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday are read by more people than any Sunday newspaper and more than twice as many people as its nearest metropolitan rival.
Readership growth has been strong on the Monday and Tuesday editions with both days growing readership by just over 20,000, and particularly strong on Thursday with 37,000 new readers driven by the re-launch of the popular Time Out magazine in the second half of 2006.
The Weekend Herald has recorded a readership of 617,000 maintaining its position as New Zealand’s best read weekly newspaper with 73,000 more readers than other nationally distributed Sunday newspapers and more than twice as many readers than competitor titles in the Northern Region.
APN’s Herald on Sunday also leads the Sunday newspaper category in the Northern region (Taupo north including Auckland) with a readership of 294,000 and a total readership of 317,000.
The Herald brand has also experienced excellent results in the digital market with a monthly audience of 1.82million unique browsers logging on to nzherald.co.nz in July 2007, an increase of 17 percent on the previous year.
The
re-launched Herald website offers viewers a comprehensive
multi-media experience and the June audience viewed a record
38.54 million page impressions, 45% higher than July
2006
APN’s magazine division celebrated the New Zealand
Woman’s Weekly’s 75th anniversary this week as the best
read retail magazine in New Zealand with a readership of
916,000 readers, 36,000 more readers than it’s closest
women’s weekly magazine rival title.
The New Zealand Listener also regained its position as New Zealand’s most popular current affairs title with a readership of 275,000 and youth title; Creme magazine, continues its consistent growth trend achieving a readership of 124,000. Creme is the only youth title to experience year on year readership growth.
The Aucklander has a readership of 375,000, retaining its place as the largest weekly-published title in Auckland. The Aucklander provides real value to advertisers with more readers per copy than competitor community titles.
Chief executive Martin Simons said, “Audience successes throughout APN’s portfolio demonstrates our ability to remain relevant to New Zealanders in a dynamic market with rapidly changing needs and expectations”
