Windflow Gearbox Joint Upgrade Successful

Media Release
For release 23 August 2007

Windflow Gearbox Joint Upgrade Successful

“A minor upgrade to the Windflow 500 gearbox will be standard in all future Windflow 500 gearboxes.” says Windflow Technology CEO and Director Geoff Henderson.

Windflow Technology has upgraded its gearbox casing joint to a higher specification which has solved the issue which arose in June in one Windflow 500 turbine. One gearbox suffered some minor damage after some bolts broke in the joint while the turbine was parked stationary during gale force winds experienced at the Te Rere Hau windfarm near Palmerston North in the Tararua Ranges. This gearbox has been carefully examined, upgraded and tested at the gearbox factory in Auckland.

Two other gearboxes were also taken out of service and upgraded as a precautionary measure. A full inspection showed no damage and that these gearboxes were in pristine condition. They are now back in service and fully operational at Te Rere Hau. All upgrade work to the existing Windflow 500 turbines installed at Te Rere Hau will be completed in September.
