New Chairman of Tait Electronics Limited is appointed

31 August 2007, Christchurch, New Zealand

Peter van Rij, a partner with the Christchurch-based legal firm Parry Field Lawyers has been appointed Chairman of Tait Electronics Limited following the death of its founder and first Chairman Sir Angus Tait.

Peter has been a non-executive Director of Tait for 16 years and has a depth of experience in the business.

"Angus, as he insisted on being called, was a leader both within the Tait Group and the wider commercial community. He leaves a legacy based upon industry knowledge, business acumen, determination and integrity. Of course it would be presumptuous to think one could fill his shoes," acknowledged Peter.

Angus had planned ahead, knowing that he wanted the company to endure beyond his passing for charitable purposes with stable ownership. Ten years ago his shares in Tait Electronics Limited (TEL) were placed in trust. The structure, based upon the ownership model of the German engineering business Bosch, is intended to ensure Angus's operating principles and business philosophy would be adhered to with ownership remaining in New Zealand for the benefit of New Zealanders.

"Through these structures and arrangements, Angus assured continuity for customers, suppliers, employees and other stakeholders. Now that he has passed away, these governance arrangements will continue to operate as they have in the past," commented Peter.

"Angus built the Tait organisation around a focused commitment to radio technology. He saw the fruits of that vision as the Tait Group of companies grew, becoming an international success story as well as spawning similar technology-based businesses in New Zealand," he added.

"Building on this legacy is quite a responsibility, but I am positive that this company has the team, the products and the know-how to thrive. Under the executive leadership of Managing Director, Michael Chick, Tait will maintain its course as a world leader in professional mobile radio technology," concluded Peter.

Peter is also Chairman of the Postie Plus Group Limited.
