Dr Stephen Stokes appointed a director
International environmental scientist Dr Stephen Stokes has joined consulting firm Andrew Stewart Ltd (ASL) as a Director.
Auckland-based ASL is an award-winning multi-disciplinary resource management, infrastructure and environmental consultancy which has helped deliver more than $500 million of new public and commercial infrastructure during the last five years. ASL subsidiary Resource Management Technology Group Ltd developed the online resource consent compliance management system CS-VUE.
Dr Stokes is driving significant expansion in ASL’s environmental consultancy area and specialises in geology and mining, environmental and resource asset management, numerical and geospatial analysis, climate change advisory, and corporate environmental diligence. In partnership with national and overseas parters, ASL will shortly be rolling out a suite of climate change services focused on providing integrated consulting services for carbon emission verification, energy efficiency, best practice guidance and carbon trading.
Dr Stokes is a former Associate Professor at Oxford University’s Centre for the Environment, and has served on a number of national and international scientific advisory boards. Since returning to New Zealand he was previously Resources and Environmental Manager for Perry Aggregates Ltd in Hamilton.
His Masters research involved consulting with New Zealand Steel Mining Ltd at their Taharoa iron sand mine.
His research at Oxford University over more than a decade focused on the increasingly critical business area of global climate change. He and his research group’s work involved the quantification of recent climatic and environmental changes and their impacts to human systems.
Dr Stokes has more than 90 published professional articles, including a paper in the widely-respected publication Nature. His research work in the decade to 2005 generated more than $8.6 million in research funding, and he has served on a number of national and international geographical, geological and environmental advisory bodies.
