National Bartending Flair Champion off to London

National Bartending Flair Champion off to London

Lisandro Walfisch has been awarded the title of New Zealand's best flair bartender in the national championships held recently in Auckland.

Walfisch, from Wellington's PBRS Bar, successfully beat 11 other contestants on Monday evening taking home the title of the nation's most entertaining and best flair bartender.

Combining art, skill and exotic cocktail ingredients, the competition was entertaining as well as challenging

"There's a lot of skill that goes in to bartending, like making customers feel welcome, service with a smile, speed and product knowledge, as well as making great cocktails," said event organiser and professional flair bartender Karai Wall.

"Flair bartending combines art and science in a uniquely entertaining mix and Lisandro demonstrated all those things".

Competition culminated at the HospitalityNZ Show semi finals as bartenders battled it out vying for one of the top five places to enable them to compete at the grand final event held at SkyCity Bar 3 on Monday night.

Combining flair and entertainment with knowledge of cocktails and exceptional customer service, Lisandro will represent New Zealand at the World Flair Championships at the famous Roadhouse Bar in London next month.

Second place was awarded to Tauranga's Duncan Crilley of Astrolab Bar and third place to Beany C from Sixth Sense Bar in Auckland.
