Radio Active 89FM throws up breakfast
Following a recent spate of poaching from a foreign-owned media conglomerate that deprived the station of two extremely respected and good looking female presenters, Wellington's Radio Active 89FM resorted to desperate measures.
It hired a dude whose face is best suited for radio.
Radio Active 89FM today announced the hiring of new Breakfast producer Phil Reed, who will also produce the station's popular arts and culture show Caffeine and Aspirin, Saturdays 10am to 1pm.
Phil replaces outgoing Breakfast producer Tova O'Brien and Caffeine and Aspirin coordinator Samantha Hayes, who both start new positions with TV3 on Monday, September 10.
Radio Active 89FM station manager Dave Gibbons said that the Radio Active community wished the recently departed all the best with their new positions, adding that the station was excited about the new appointment.
"Both Sam Hayes and Tova O'Brien have served the station amazingly well and we're very sad to see them go," said Mr Gibbons.
"But we're excited to have Phil on board. He has a lot of media experience, writes for nation-wide magazines and is a high-profile arts and entertainment publicist in Wellington – plus I'm confident he has the facial attributes to keep television people away."
Phil begins at Radio Active 89FM Breakfast on Monday September 10, joining stalwart Breakfast host Liam Luff for the daily 6.30am to 9am show.
Phil's background includes six years presenting for fellow b-Net radio station 95bFM (Auckland), ongoing writing for Real Groove, Groove Guide and Pulp magazines, and as a publicist for high-profile entertainment organisations including the NZ Fringe Festival, the Comedy Festival, Rhombus and The Nomad.
