High energy feed for lambs

For immediate release
19 September 2007

High energy feed for lambs

To maximise the growth of your lambs, you need every megajoule of summer energy you can get.

Tyfon forage brassica from Agriseeds is one way of achieving this in 2007/08.

Tyfon is a high quality summer lamb forage that establishes rapidly to give one or two grazings before autumn pasture renovation.

It has excellent feed quality, recording metabolisable energy (ME) levels of up to 13.4 megajoules (MJ)/kg DM in trials in Canterbury, and typically delivering 11  13 MJ/kg DM.

Because it is palatable to lambs, and grows in an upright manner, Tyfon is easily grazed, providing high crop utilisation and little wastage.

Tyfon is ideally suited to lamb finishing on the east coast of both islands.

Sown in October or November, it will be ready for grazing in January or February. Tyfon should be sown at 4  5 kg/ha.
