Six Gold Medals for Saint Clair Estate Wines

MEDIA RELEASE 21 SEPTEMBER 2007

GOLDEN HANDSHAKE FOR FAMILY WINERY

Six Gold Medals for Saint Clair Estate Wines

Saint Clair Estate Wines has won six gold medals at the NZ International Wine Show 2007, the largest wine competition ever held in this country.

Five of the six gold medals were awarded to 2007 Sauvignon Blanc brands within Saint Clair’s portfolio, including the company’s flagship wine, Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2007.

Three Saint Clair Pioneer Block Sauvignon Blancs were also awarded gold medals. This specialist range comprises of small-parcel wines handcrafted to reflect the unique influence of terroir on grape varieties grown within the same region.

Saint Clair Estate Wines owner and founder, Neal Ibbotson, says, “We are particularly proud of our 2007 vintage of Sauvignon Blanc, which is one of our best ever.”

Saint Clair Pioneer Block 11 Cell Block Chardonnay 2006 also won a gold medal at the 2007 NZ International Wine Show. This follows the success of Saint Clair Pioneer Block 4 Sawcut Chardonnay 2005, which was awarded five stars in Cuisine New Zealand Chardonnay tasting held earlier this year.

Ibbotson continues, “Our Saint Clair Pioneer Block range continues to provide the opportunity to experiment with single vineyards and with different winemaking techniques. A perfect mix of weather conditions, hard work and innovation has helped us to create these award-winning wines.”

Wine drinkers can be confident that Saint Clair offers premium quality across their entire portfolio, as gold medals were awarded to wines across different price points, from the $20 for the Saint Clair Marlborough range, $26.95 for the Pioneer Block to the flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve at $32.95.

Saint Clair has now won 134 gold medals and 48 trophies at local and international wine shows since 2001.

Saint Clair Estate Wines, which can now be enjoyed in 45 different export markets around the world, is a family-owned and operated winery based in Marlborough.
