Performance

Sony's new SZ Series notebooks are ultra-light and ultra-portable but as we have suggested, it's the performance which is also one of the most notable features.

At the core of both the SZ55 and SZ58 models is the advanced Intel Centrino Duo Processor Technology and Windows Vista Business operating system. These technologies combine with the wireless LAN standards IEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g (Wi-Fi), built-in Motion Eye camera, microphone, and Bluetooth(R) capabilities to deliver a truly mobile communications centre - a portable powerhouse that is ready to go.

The SZ58 model also features a revolutionary Hybrid Hard Disc Drive (HDD). Using a combination of high-speed flash memory along with a traditional disc array, the hybrid drive uses significantly less power*, produces less heat, and dramatically boosts performance by buffering commonly-accessed data in the flash memory. During use the conventional high-capacity disc array is only required rarely for data access also improving the drive's lifespan and your VAIO's responsiveness.

Security

The new SZ Series notebooks are very conscious of the need to protect your data. Thanks to a TPM security chip and, in the case of the SZ55 model - a biometric fingerprint sensor, owners can set limited user access and avoid unauthorized information sharing, while still having a fast and straightforward login process when required.

Data is further protected from accidental loss with enhanced Hard Disk Drive projection that senses shakes and shocks as they happen to secure valuable data already stored onboard the hard disk.

Power

Long-lasting stamina is one of the essentials for any mobile computer. The new SZ Series VAIO offers* up to 6.5 hours with the standard battery (VGPBPSA9A/B) and up to 9.5 hours use with the optional battery (VGPBPL9). Owners can also choose how much power they use with the option to switch between improved graphics accelerators** depending on how they are using their machine.

**Both models have a NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8400M GS Graphics Processing Unit which is a step up feature from earlier SZ Series models.

Design

Each new SZ Series notebook has a full-pitched, full-sized keyboard with an aluminum hairline palm rest for ergonomic use and a beautifully finished chassis for a lasting impression where ever you take it.

The overall body of each notebook is no more than 13.3-inches at its widest point and is perfectly portable for use on long-haul flights or inter-office meetings. Finally, the 13.3-inch Clear Bright LCD rounds out the appeal of both these notebooks which are just as impressive displaying spreadsheets as they are playing back movies and video files.
