Philips welcomes HDTV decision for 2008

Philips has welcomed the decision of TVNZ to introduce High Definition TV (HDTV) to New Zealanders next year.

“We’re ready and set to go,” Caroline Fountaine, Product Marketing Manager – Consumer Business of Philips New Zealand, says.

“This announcement puts us in a strong position because we have the widest range of Full High Definition TVs in the market.”

TVNZ announced today that it would bring New Zealanders the Beijing Olympics in HDTV on TV One. It will introduce High Definition TV on the Freeview Digital Terrestrial platform which is timed to go live during the first half of next year.

“It’s exciting that High Definition TV is finally coming to New Zealand. Philips has been offering HD ready TVs for a some time now with a complete range from 26” and above.

Philips has also now released a range of Full High Definition (1080p) LCD TVs that are also compatible with the emerging HD digital sources such as Blu-ray DVD and HD broadcast. Finally people will be able to enjoy the full potential their television is able to deliver,” Ms Fountaine says. Philips are also planning to introduce a range of LCD TVs with integrated HD tuners in 2008.

High Definition TV provides a higher resolution signal, offering sharper and clearer picture images. “It’s like looking out the window on a clear day, rather than looking at a television screen,” Ms Fountaine says.
