Trade Me Partners With Plunket

Trade Me Partners With Plunket

Today Trade Me announced a partnership with Plunket that will allow its 1.7 million members to donate part of their success fees to support young children in New Zealand. Every time a seller lists an item, they have the option of rounding up their success fee to the nearest dollar.

The difference will be donated to Plunket if the auction is successful. It is the seller's choice to donate and those that do will be recognised on their listing. Trade Me is in the process of building the ability to provide sellers with receipts. This year Trade Me expects to run over 40 million auctions.

"While we run about 100 charity auctions a years, we were looking for a more pro-active way of supporting communities in New Zealand. Given our large number of young parents at Trade Me and the high usage of our site by new mothers, Plunket felt like an awesome choice," said Trade Me founder, Sam Morgan

"It's also cool to be able to help support Plunket's 100th Birthday and give members the ability to show support for this iconic New Zealand organisation."

The Trade Me community is very strong in New Zealand and the company has a reputation for innovation. If the project with Plunket is something that interests the TradeMe community then it could bode well for other New Zealand not for profit organisations in the future. Plunket believes that the relationship will certainly be good news for New Zealand families.

"Our relationship with Trade Me will give us a chance to connect with New Zealand's strongest online community and we're strong believers in moving with the times," said Plunket CEO Paul Baigent.

"I hope that TradeMe members will see this as a positive move. Plunket is delighted and I hope that it works well so that other organisations may also get the benefit of support from TradeMe. This is an innovative development and a great opportunity for Plunket."

Trade Me will trial the charity donation functionality with Plunket for four months from Monday 1st October 2007. If the feedback from the Trade Me community supports it, then they will look at extending the association.

October is an exciting time for Plunket as well as its new relationship with TradeMe, Plunket's Annual Appeal runs 13 21 October and has celebrity support including Carol Hirschfeld, Robyn Malcolm and Taika Waititi, to name a few. The main focus for the Appeal will be door to door collections and local fundraising events.
