3 Bald Men complete the world’s greatest beer delivery
Leading hotel design company 3 Bald Men have created another first, when on Tuesday, the world’s wackiest beer delivery arrives in London after a 70 day journey at sea.
In an effort to help out a mate who is pining for a Speight’s Beer, the idea came about to bring the pub to London itself, and drop it at the popular Canary Wharf. There, the Speight’s beer will be free-flowing for all Kiwi ex-pats to enjoy.
Built out of two 40ft Containers, the authentic Speight’s Alehouse is a fully functional pub containing operational beer taps, beer cooling systems, 42” Plasma television and Sony Playstation.
In order to make the journey by sea, 3 Bald
Men designed each section of the pub to weigh less than 5
metric tonnes, and used steel trusses & carefully placed
columns for support. The inner walls are made of ply-wood
and weatherboard, and the bar itself boasts the well-known
Speight’s look & feel,
The pub took 3 Bald Men six
weeks to build.
To gather crew, Speight’s held a competition in NZ which resulted in ship-mates James, Tim, Mark, Steve & Jamie joining the ship for the journey. All in their 20’s, the men have had a whale of a time playing sports (golf, darts & hatch cricket), completing general crew duties, and of course, enjoying the odd Speight’s beer.
The Ship, M.V. Lida, made several port stops on her journey across South Pacific & North Atlantic Oceans, including Western Samoa, Panama, New York and the Bahamas. With the carrier due to arrive in London at 5pm on Monday 8th October, the Thames Wharf will be buzzing with a ticket-only celebration.
The Pub will then stay at the Wharf location for two week’s worth of parties before moving to a more permanent location downtown.
