New Addition to Karaka Million

New Addition to Karaka Million

New Zealand Bloodstock has announced the addition of a $200,000 3YO Mile for graduates of its 2008 National Yearling Sales Series at Karaka.

At the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales this January, one entry fee will now permit Karaka Sale graduates to be eligible for both the $1,000,000 Karaka Million for 2YOs in 2009 and a $200,000 Karaka 3YO Mile in January 2010.

Marketing Manager Petrea Vela said NZB is delighted to be able to give owners two bites of the cherry.

"For those yearlings that might not be in with a chance to race for the million dollars at two, this gives them a great target for the following year and should attract a wider selection of horses to enter. With the NZ Mercedes Derby in March the timing fits nicely in the Northern programme of three-year-olds races, and the $200,000 stake makes it the fourth richest race for three-year-old colts and fillies in the country."

In addition, 2008 graduates are now eligible for the two races for the same entry fee as last year.

A change to this year's entry procedure will see a single entry fee payable for all yearlings. Buyers will have two deadlines to nominate their yearlings for the Karaka Million Series: 3 March for graduates of the Premier, Select and Festival Sale, and 4 April for graduates of the Carnival Sale.  All horses must then be paid up by 30 April 2008.

January 2008 will see the first running of New Zealand Bloodstock's new one million dollar incentive race for graduates of the 2007 National Yearling Sales Series. Being hosted at the Auckland Racing Club's Ellerslie racecourse, the six-race Twilight Meeting will take place on the eve of Karaka's Premier Sale (Sunday 27 January).
