Dairy Awards Provide Opportunity To Progress

Offer Dairy Awards Provide Opportunity To Progress

Entries for the 2008 New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards are now open in 12 regions, providing an opportunity for goal-oriented people who want to progress in their chosen field.

Dairy Industry Awards regional convenors from throughout New Zealand came together in Rotorua this week for their annual strategy planning session and are now fired up for the best event ever, says National Convenor Chris Keeping.

“Because the convenors are all volunteers working with their committees in their respective regions, opportunities such as this to come together, share experiences and things they have learned are really valuable. They spark off each other and there’s also healthy competition between the regions to see who can organise the best event.”

The convenors were joined by representatives of the national family of sponsors, which comprises Westpac, Dairy InSight, Fonterra, RD1, LIC, Meridian Energy, Ravensdown, Ecolab, Federated Farmers, and Blue Wing Honda, along with industry partners Dexcel and Agriculture ITO.

“Bringing the sponsors and convenors together in one venue is really important,” Ms Keeping. “The sponsors gain a better feeling for the extraordinary event they are supporting and what the awards really mean and the convenors are shown the hard work they put in is appreciated.”

She says these are just some of the things that set the Dairy Industry Awards apart from other agricultural competitions.

“There’s a true spirit of comradeship among these people, many of whom are destined to become future industry leaders,” Ms Keeping says.

“Because the awards encourage progression in participants’ development through three tiers – dairy trainees, farm managers and sharemilkers – the Dairy Industry Awards champion those who are prepared to work hard to achieve their goals. And the awards demonstrate there are many people out there to help them on their way, in the same way they too were helped.”
