Oyster Bay Named Brand Of The Year And Takes Premium White Wine Award At The 2007 Australian Liquor Industry Awards

24 October, 2007: Leading New Zealand Super-Premium wine brand, Oyster Bay, has been named ‘Brand of the year’ and for the third consecutive year, has also been voted ‘Premium white wine of the year’ at the 2007 Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIAs).

Held in Sydney on October 18 and attended by more than 700 industry members, the ALIAs acknowledge excellence of product, product-marketing, retail, on and off-premise and supply. The ALIAs are hosted by Australia’s National Liquor News magazine, with the judging process involving both reader voting and voting by Australian liquor industry suppliers. Finalists are then reviewed by a panel of key retailing and buying figures from each Australian state and territory who then provide a qualitative vote.

Oyster Bay was the only wine brand to be nominated for ‘Brand of the year’ in the major awards category of this year’s ALIAs and was competing against renowned international beer and spirits brands.

Jim Delegat, Managing Director of Delegat’s Wine Estate, says “the fact that the Australian liquor industry has voted Oyster Bay brand of the year for 2007 is official acknowledgement of the success the brand has achieved in the relatively short four-year period it has had a market presence in Australia.

Recent consumer trends show that amongst Australian wine consumers, there is a growing demand for New Zealand’s lighter styles of white wine which complement Australia’s own styles and this trend was perfectly illustrated earlier this year when AC Neilsen announced that Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc had become the number one bottled still wine by value in Australia.

Delegat’s Wine Estate is listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and remains majority-owned by the Delegat family. Today Oyster Bay is exported to more than 30 countries.
