$2 Million Levin Lotto First Division Claimed by Ecstatic Local

Levin's latest Lotto millionaire vows she will never make homemade soup again after claiming $2 million on Saturday's Lotto First Division, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

The Levin local had no idea she could be a multi-millionaire when she went into the Levin Lucky Lotto store to have her ticket checked.

'I had my Lotto ticket in my Lotto envelope so I hadn't even looked at the numbers since I bought it," says the winner - who wishes to remain anonymous.

"I know Dave, the owner of the shop and when he quietly mouthed to me that I had won $2 million, I thought he was pulling my leg," she says.

Lucky Lotto shop owner Dave Lyons had been waiting for the winning ticket to be presented at his store since Saturday night and had decorated his shop in anticipation.

"When I looked at her ticket and saw that she was the winner, my heart started to pound and beads of sweat started to form on my face," says Dave.

"There were some other people in the shop so I told her very quietly I thought she had won $2 million and waited till the other people had left before I put it through the machine confirming her win," says Dave.

This is the eleventh First Division win for the Levin Lucky Lotto Shop and the biggest First Division to date. Their previous biggest winner was a $1 million First Division sold in March 2002.

When asked what she plans to do with her millions, the winner said she was going to take some thinking time but would probably fix up her house.

"Like Scarlett O'Hara from Gone With The Wind, I'm never going to make homemade soup again," she says. "I'm going to go out for dinner every night in my gum boots now," she joked.
