Charity Auction For First Pacific Blue Domestic Seat

Friday, 2 November 2007: New Zealand travel enthusiasts have a chance to take their place in New Zealand aviation history by bidding for the first seat on the first Pacific Blue New Zealand domestic flight on 12 November 2007.

The airline has teamed up with Variety – The Children’s Charity to auction seat 1A on the very first flight, from Auckland to Wellington. The winning bidder will also receive a ticket for seat 1B so they can share the historic experience.

The auction is open from today on auction site trademe.co.nz and will close at 6.00pm on Saturday 10 November.

Pacific Blue General Manager Commercial, Adrian Hamilton-Manns, said the auction was a great way to give a member of the public a chance to be part of an historic flight as well as raise money for a good cause.

“The winning bidder will be our special Guest on the inaugural Pacific Blue domestic flight from Auckland to Wellington. In Wellington, we’ll host them at our launch party, which will include a performance by one of the New Zealand’s hottest bands, Evermore,” he said. “We will also present them with a specially framed boarding pass showing the date and seat numbers, as a memento of their historic flight.”

After the celebration, the auction Guests will be flown back from Wellington to Auckland, to touch down around 12.30pm.

The first seat, first flight auction will take place on trademe.co.nz. A direct link to the online auction page is available on the homepage of the airline’s website www.flypacificblue.com.

Mr Hamilton-Manns said he had no idea what kind of bid the seat might attract.

“Normally we're the low fare leader but on this occasion we’re hoping that someone will bid big for this unique chance, so that we can pass on a good-sized cheque to Variety.”

Pacific Blue launches its much anticipated domestic New Zealand service on 12 November on the main trunk routes of Auckland-Wellington, Auckland-Christchurch, and Wellington-Christchurch, with ten daily return flights.
