HospitalityNZ wins award for Best Show

Media release                                                                12 December 2007

HospitalityNZ wins award for Best Show

Delivering what show exhibitors and visitors want has seen dmg world media scoop the pool at the annual Australasian industry awards held in Sydney over the weekend.

At the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia awards on Saturday evening, HospitalityNZ, run by dmg world media in Auckland in September 2007, was named Best Trade Show under 10,000m2 and won the award for the Best Visitor Campaign for a Trade Show.

In total, dmg world media shows won five out of the six of the show-related awards, even though they were up against industry heavyweights such as Reed, Diversified, ETF and AEC.

HIA Home Ideas Show won the award for Best Consumer Show over 10,0002, Adelaide Home & Garden Expo won Best Visitor Campaign for a Consumer Show and ad:tech Sydney won Best New Launch.

There were 30 entries from across Australia and New Zealand for the show-related awards, in an industry the association estimates to be worth well over A$3 billion a year.

Michele Harrod, dmg world media NZ trade group manager, said this year’s HospitalityNZ had exceeded all expectations, and the awards recognised the excellence achieved by really listening to what exhibitors and visitors wanted.

“For four months before HospitalityNZ we had face-to-face interviews with VIP visitors and exhibitors from previous shows, asking them what they believed had worked well in the past, and what they thought we could improve on.

“Their answers gave us real insights that meant we could put together the best possible event for the industry. As a result we sold 6% more stand space and visitor numbers increased by almost 19% over the previous year.

“By working with our exhibitors as partners, ensuring they were really able to use HospitalityNZ to showcase and build their business we were able to build a must-see event that delivered excellent value for New Zealand’s hospitality industry.”

Ms Harrod said the awards were a tribute to the hard work and innovation of the talented show team and their determination to deliver excellence for the visitors, exhibitors and sponsors.

Ben Brougham, dmg world media managing director Australasia, said the company’s award success reflected outstanding teamwork and a focus on delivering results for exhibitors and sponsors.

"At dmg world media, we invest significantly to build the quality of our shows and create vibrant marketplaces for our customers to do business together. With every show we aim to deliver new, creative and successful marketing campaigns.  It’s fantastic to see this work recognised so resoundingly by our industry at the EEAA Awards this week.

“dmg world media is responsible for 40 major trade fairs and public exhibitions in Australia and New Zealand every year, attracting  more than half a million visitors and nearly 8,000 exhibiting companies,” he said.
