Change in the Wind for Brighton Building

Media Release for immediate use 12 December 2007

Change in the Wind for Brighton Building

A New Brighton building which has already undergone one extreme makeover could be in for another.

What began in the 1960s as a library is these days a training school and student clinic for Chinese medicine.

The 681 sq m property at 183 Shaw Avenue is now for sale or lease, with observers keen to see what its next transformation will result in.

SImes marketing agent Craig Edwards says the building had a significant upgrade about seven years ago and lends itself to expansion and a number of commercial possibilities.

“It is zoned B2, so is pretty flexible,” he says. “The property has a 24 metre street frontage and is close to the retail centre of Brighton.

“It could become a training centre, a school, a community health centre, a treatment centre, a gym, a retail/wholesale outlet or be used for some sort of hospitality business It’s a case of watch this space.”

At the moment, the building is configured as two large training/lecture rooms, a large reception area and five consulting rooms, with student common areas, storage, offices and updated amenities. It has current NZQA approval.

The property is for sale with an asking price of $495,000 plus GST or for lease at $43,000 plus GST and operating expenses.
