Aventine Announces Michael Littlewood’s
Retirement
Aventine Limited has announced the impending retirement of one of its founders and directors, Michael Littlewood. A co-founding director, Michael Chamberlain, said that Michael Littlewood will be retiring with effect from 31 March 2008.
“However,” said Michael Chamberlain, “Michael will not be lost to either Aventine or the superannuation industry. He will remain as a director of SuperLife Trustee Limited, the trustee of both SuperLife and SuperLife KiwiSaver. He will be spending more of his time on what he loves doing – his role as Co-director of the University of Auckland’s Retirement Policy & Research Centre.”
Michael Littlewood said that it will be hard to cut day-to-day ties with something that has been part of his business life for the last 15 years. SuperLife is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing master trusts but it started life under Michael’s care when he was the Employee Benefits Director at Fletcher Challenge Limited but it was then only for Fletcher Challenge employees. Michael said that SuperLife and the associated SuperLife KiwiSaver now have more than 20,000 members and are now well established and a major provider, so that is very satisfying.
“My passion is now in the public policy area – New Zealand has a lot to teach the rest of the world about both how, and how not to, do things. We have done some things well and other things badly and what I would now like is for New Zealanders to celebrate our successes and recognise what needs fixing.
“I have a couple of other projects that I want to spend time on and I also want to start regular long weekends as part of my next major project – the transition from ‘work to retirement’.”
Michael Chamberlain said that Michael will be missed – especially for his “Littlewood annotates …” versions of documents that he disagreed with or edited in his inimical way. “We will be recognising Michael’s retirement formally in the New Year.”
