JUCY takes on Aussies

JUCY Group Limited, one of New Zealand's fastest growing tourism companies has announced it is taking its campers to Australia

Says Tim Alpe, CEO of JUCY, "We're basing the business in Brisbane and will have branches in Sydney, Cairns City and Cairns airport.

"As we researched how to expand our business we have seen that the East Coast of Australia has a long summer season that we don't think is well-served with a mix of camper options. The Gold Coast is a huge destination for tourists, particularly kiwis and we see an opportunity to fly drive.

"We're very excited about this next big leap. We are the only campa van operator based in downtown Brisbane. We have a well-positioned brand in the New Zealand market so the brand is ready to move into Australia

"The JUCY fleet will consist of 100 two berth campas initially and the plan is to add significantly to this over the next 18 months.

"We have been studying the Australian market and talking to our major European partners. We see a niche market that we can move into. We have been working with an Australian operator for the past three years and have sold car and campas under the JUCY brand through this operator. Now it's time for us to go it alone," says Mr Alpe.

JUCY has grown its fleet over the past two years to be one of the largest in New Zealand, with over 480 campas. The rapid growth is partly due to the strength of the JUCY brand and a unique product range.

Adds, Mr Alpe, "The campas we are putting into Australia are well-suited to the Australian market and we believe they will be popular with not only international visitors but also locals who want to see a bit more of their country."

Initially the reservations for the Australian vehicles will be done via the New Zealand reservations team located in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.

With over 60,000 people passing through the company annually JUCY is the fastest growing rental car and camper van company in New Zealand. The company recently announced it had purchased 50 per cent of newly branded Cruize Milford, a cruise company in Milford Sound. The company is also a 50 per cent shareholder in New Zealand's first car share company, Cityhop.
