Changes at TIA
6 March 2008
The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) has announced that Fiona Luhrs will move from her role as Chief Executive to focus on TIA projects relating to the implementation of the industry’s strategy to become sustainable.
TIA Chairman Norm Thompson said Fiona had a significant role in the development of the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015, along with the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism New Zealand. A key principle of the Strategy is that the tourism sector takes a leading role in protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s environment.
Mr Thompson said TIA’s role is to make it as easy as possible for its members to operate their businesses in a way that reduces carbon emissions and meets visitors’ expectations of a 100% Pure experience.
“New Zealand’s ability to market itself as a desirable holiday destination is closely linked to our ability to demonstrate that the natural environment is used sustainably. Fiona’s number one priority is to work with industry, to enable the impacts of tourism activities on climate change to be minimised.
“We thank Fiona for her dedication to TIA as Chief Executive during the last three and a half years and look forward to working with her in her new role.”
Mr Thompson said the search for a new chief executive would begin immediately.
This change will be effective from 11 April 2008.
