3 News Ratings Lead Continues

3 NEWS continues to experience positive year-on-year growth into 2008.

The 3 NEWS channel share and average audience have gained in the key 18-49 demographic. Ratings from February ’07 to February ’08 show a 14% ratings rise, again increasing 3 NEWS’ lead in the market.

In the last month alone 3 NEWS has increased its dominance over One News by 11% among 18-49 year olds. The One News ratings in this demographic for January-February, 2008 remain static.

During February, 3 NEWS also dominated One News in the important 18-49 Metro demographic (Auckland, Hamilton Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin) by 43%, showing a 9% growth.

Among the 18-39 Metro demographic, 3 NEWS holds a 73% audience margin over One News.

TV3’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings, says the ratings figures demonstrate that viewers continue to make 3 NEWS their preferred viewing option in the key 18-49 demographic.

“It is very encouraging to see that the audience appetite for news is increasing and 3 News has increased its ratings in key demographics. While we are seeing some fragmentation of television audiences generally, news appears to be bucking the trend. Our lead over One News is increasing in our 18-49 target demographic, particularly in the major cities.”
