Fairfax Media And Geon Announce Printing Deal

Fairfax Media and GEON have announced they are formalising a comprehensive printing arrangement. The deal involves Fairfax outsourcing its sheetfed printing to GEON, including magazines and GEON purchasing the Fairfax commercial printing operations comprising Herald Print, Stylex Print, Taranaki Print and Graphics and Taupo Times Commercial Print.

Fairfax Media Group Head of Publishing, Rodger Shepherd, said following a review of the business it was decided to sell the Commercial Print Operations and proceed with an outsourcing model for sheetfed printing.

“We are delighted to be working with GEON who have proven expertise in this area and are well positioned to take the business forward.”

Graham Morgan, GEON’s CEO commented “This deal represents a major customer into GEON’s new Highbrook facility - a New Zealand ‘super site’ combining the latest in print, logistics and mail technology all under one roof”.

“We are delighted to be able to partner with Fairfax Media on their sheetfed printing needs. GEON is the largest sheetfed company in Australia and New Zealand, so is well positioned to take the business forward through its market leadership and commitment to quality and service”, Mr Morgan concluded.

Sandy Maier, GEON Chairman, commented, “This represents a significant opportunity for the group and we are excited to be working in partnership with a company such as Fairfax”.

“It will be very much business as usual for customers but at the same time GEON will be exploring opportunities to add value to the services currently provided to them” said Mr Shepherd.

The sale and purchase is subject to agreeing final documentation.
