Looking At Auckland Business

20 March 2008

How will Auckland businesses respond to gloomy economic forecasts?

For the latest snapshot of what’s front-of-mind for Auckland businesses, look no further than the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this Monday.

More than 1,000 Chamber members are currently filling out the business confidence survey and the results - the first of 2008 - will be available Monday 24th March.

Michael Barnett, Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive, says he is interested to see what impact the recent debate about the probability of an economic downturn will have on the results.

In particular, this quarter around 1,000 businesses will comment on;

- impact of the ongoing skills shortage
-
- the amount of new investment they are planning
-
- optimism regarding trading conditions for the next quarter
-
The purpose of the Chamber’s quarterly business confidence survey is to gauge the opinions of Auckland businesses about the current economic climate. The results provide a critical up-to-date guide to the opinion of hundreds of businesses, across all industry sectors.

Mr Barnett says the survey results provide Chamber members – and the greater business community – with business intelligence and the chance to gain an understanding of the market forces and issues at local, regional and national levels.
